My Last Footprint Evaluation

Image
Final Footprint Evaluation   Ecological Footprint: Before: After: When evaluating the ecological footprint, it is clear that I have improved my footprint drastically. I have actively been trying to decrease my ecological footprint by driving much less and carpooling almost everywhere I go. I want to keep this going because it is clearly working. I definitely reached my goals for this footprint and will definitely keep working on them. Carbon Footprint: Before: After: When evaluating my carbon footprint, I have also greatly reduced my carbon usage. Although it was not nearly as much as the ecological footprint, I am still glad I was able to reduce it even slightly. I did reach my goal of reducing my footprint, however, I want to still reduce it even further. By carpooling much more and driving less, this will really help me do that. I also want to get a more environmentally friendly car. Whether it is hybrid or fully electric, it will still be a better option that using my 2013 Nissan A

The Future of Sustainable Marketing Strategies

The Future of Sustainable Marketing Strategies This quarter, I have had the opportunity to take a marketing sustainability class. I have learned many methods to ensure products or services being offered are sustainable or at the very least environmentally friendly. Of course, the goal is to not cause any further harm to the environment as there are clear indicators for negative impacts on the world. Due to this, I believe that businesses will keep moving in the direction of sustainability.  Businesses will strive to make sustainability one of their main objectives while still making profits. Today, much more companies are actually trying to incorporate marketing strategies that will ensure that products are sustainable and not greenwashing the consumers. One of the most valuable methods that I have learned this quarter is the concept of reverse supply chain. This is one of the best strategies I have learned because this strategy ensures that products are being used to their full capaci

How Companies Can Increase Sustainability in Their Supply Chains

Image
How Can Companies Increase Sustainability in Their Supply Chains? Running a company can be very complicated. For companies, the triple bottom line framework is essential, especially when to consider sustainability. The triple bottom line considers profit, people and the planet. Going deeper, they measure the financial, social and environmental performances over time. If the numbers are steadily going up, it is a good sign that sustainability is being achieved. To improve the environmental performance numbers, they can do a number of things. One of the most important and effective methods is to increase the sustainability in their supply chain. According to Forrester's Research , there is for elements to focus on in oder to make these goals achievable.  The first one is procurement . This means that companies should look at their sustainability efforts even deeper. Usually, companies tend to only look at and reduce their water and energy use. Those are both very important, however,

How Greenwashing Can Affect Consumers and The Environment

Image
Sustainable products have been increasing in popularity in these recent years. Many people are starting to realize that the world is very contaminated and if we don't do anything about it, we will have to face the consequences. Due to this, many consumers are shopping to be sustainable, even if the price is higher. Many companies are also taking advantage of this trend in some very negative manners. What is Greenwashing? Greenwashing is when companies make false claims that their products are environmentally friendly only for the benefit of selling more and going along with the sustainability trend. These companies promote their product as eco friendly but in reality are making very little to no effort. The absolute best way to avoid greenwashed products is to DO YOUR RESEARCH!!! Without doing so, you are asking to be tricked by big companies. Many of the claims they make also do not really make any sense and by thinking through those claims thoroughly, you can avoid being greenwa

How Companies Can Make Their Products/Services More Sustainable

Image
This week we will be exploring how Nike has incorporated sustainability in their products and services. Right now, sustainability is a big trend. Companies along with consumers have been making an  effort to be more sustainable in order to help the world become healthier and renewable. For companies to make their products and services more sustainable , they must: Use low impact materials, this will ensure that the product is durable for sustainability Avoid un-recyclable materials Avoid single use plastics Pay attention to water use Nike Sustainable Products and Services: Nike has been improving in the best way possible in terms of their sustainability. Since 2017, they have introduced Flyleather, which is " a new super material made with ~50% recyclable leather fibers, using 90% less water, and an 80% lower carbon footprint.  The product is created to maximize performance as it’s 5x more durable and 40% lighter than regular leather". This is very similar to their Flyknit ma

My Footprint Reevaluation

Image
Recently, I did a footprint evaluation around 3-4 weeks ago. I have taken some action when it comes to making an impact on the environment. Today, I reevaluated my footprint and here are my results: Ecological Footprint: Carbon Footprint: Water Footprint: According to these results, I am doing a lot better with the ecological footprint. I can definitely do better in all of the aspects and I want to focus on water and carbon. I will continue to make an effort to carpool as often as I can. Also, I will reduce my shower time and even shut the water off when I am in there and not using it.  I am excited and proud to say that my ecological footprint has gone down tremendously and I want to keep this going.

How Nike Measures How Sustainable They Are

Image
Nike and Sustainability: Nike measures their sustainability through data. Specifically, Nike created the Materials Sustainability Index (MSI) and this is how they evaluate the impact the materials they use on their products to the environment. Nike also released all of this information so that anyone and everyone can see it and has access to it. So far, this is the only way that Nike has measured sustainability in their company. Every single product that they use can be looked at and evaluated by the MSI which I believe is very good. Overall, I believe that there can definitely be something that they are not measuring. They measure three categories which are the material environmental attributes, the base material score and supplier practices. In more depth, they measure the chemistry, energy and greenhouse gas intensity, water and land use intensity and physical waste. To go even more in depth, they measure green chemistry, recycled content, organic content, RSL, water quality an
